Opposite the door leading outside is a small steam
locomotive popularly known as “Teresita”. Its peculiar
aspect is due to its vertical boiler. It was built in 1885
for manoeuvring or, in other words, for moving other
vehicles. It originally had a small roof to shelter the
engineer from the sun and rain. Despite its primitive style,
it is not the oldest one in the Museum, although it is the
smallest. It is featured in one of the stories in the
Museum’s collection.
It was used in the workshops from the Barcelona’s Clot
Station (which no longer exists) from the beginning of the
last century until 1957. When its technology became obsolete
for the workshop’s needs, it was used solely as a steam
generator to power the workshops’ machinery, as was done in
the textile industry throughout the 19th century, until the
arrival of electricity.
Behind “Teresita” you can see the back of the cocherón
(engine-shed) or the quarter-circle Rotonda
(Roundhouse) of the former Steam Depot. The Parque
de Núria (playground) has also been relocated here, as a
gift from the FGC Company, to commemorate the 75th
anniversary of the “Cremallera de Núria” (funicular railway).
